About Lauren Avery, Violinist
Lauren Avery is concertmaster of the San Juan Symphony and lives in Durango, Colorado. She also has performed regularly as a member of the Berkeley Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, California Symphony, Napa Valley Philharmonic, Sacramento Philharmonic, and many other ensembles in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has spent summers with festivals such as the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz with Marin Alsop, Spoleto USA, Durango’s own Music in the Mountains Festival, and the Opera Theater and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy, and toured in Muscat, Oman with conductor Lorin Maazel and the Castleton Festival’s production of La Bohème.
Lauren is a certified Suzuki violin teacher and enjoys working with students from young children to adults, beginner to advanced. She also enjoys teaching viola, leading orchestral audition preparation courses, and particularly loves coaching student chamber ensembles. Her students have gone on to win awards and scholarships all across the country.
She has an undergraduate degree in music and biology from Vassar College, a Master’s Degree in Violin Performance from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, and spent a year of post-graduate intensive orchestral repertoire study with members of the Munich Philharmonic while living abroad in Germany. When not performing or teaching, Lauren enjoys gardening, birding, and exploring with her husband, conductor Thomas Heuser, and their son Theo.
